Pricing - Making It Make Sense
There are multiple factors that go into the cost of a product out on the market. To better understand the cost, we see on the shelves, Blue Angel Arts has chopped the pricing mayhem into 3 key areas:
Skilled use of resources results in artistry.
Bringing a product to market requires acknowledging the workforce involved in its creation. Consider, for example, the products featured on this site.
A weaver creates fabric, someone finishes the fabric, a person sells the fabric, a someone delivers the fabric.
The person who bought the fabric designed a solid white shirt, someone transformed the fabric into the shirt, someone packaged the shirt, someone sold the shirt, and someone delivered the shirt.
The story highlights the work of at least eight skilled individuals involved in the process that introduced a solid white shirt to the market and ensured its delivery to the purchaser's doorstep. Without their contribution, Blue Angel Arts would not have achieved its current status, providing a visual voice for vibes.
To celebrate the creativity and skill inherent in all those who make things possible, the following is our general method for pricing materials we use to create our products:
Fabric: Market Price + 20%
Apparel: Market Price +20%
Home Goods: Market Price + 20%
Other Materials*: Market Price + 20%
*The market price for other materials includes, and is not limited to, prorated amounts for dyes, binding supplies, and dye application supplies.
Creating a cohesive recipe for the materials.
A designer transcends the mere creation of a thing; they are visionaries who harmonize various elements into a unified whole. They meticulously plan the form, appearance, color scheme, and production process of a product, essentially concocting the formula that brings an item to life.
Our design method streamlines the prototyping and product development phases, affording us additional time to concentrate on the mechanics that visually express the vibe through patterns and colors.
Based on our design methodology, here is how we typically calculate design pricing:
Fabrics: $7/per yard
Apparel:
No Pattern*: $2
1 Pattern*: $5
2 Patterns*: $10
3 Patterns*: $20
Custom: $60/hour
Home Goods:
2'x2' Flower Sack Towel: $5
2'x2' Tea Towel: $5
3'x5' Tapestry: $10
6'x9' Tapestry: $20
Bandana: $3
Twin Top Sheet: $20
Queen Top Sheet: $20
King Top Sheet: $30
This is not an all-inclusive list.
* Pattern refers to the number of ties/folds as it is related to the design. For example, a scrunch design is no pattern whereas a spiral on the front of the shirt and nothing on the back of the shirt is one pattern. We place patterns on the front, back, and sides of the shirt.
Converting materials bring the product to life.
In the story of artistry, the weaver turns cotton into fabric, and the tailor transforms that fabric into a shirt, both creating a product for use. Much like an artist with a canvas, Blue Angel Arts transforms visions into reality.
In this case, six distinct roles were involved in transforming the materials into a marketable shirt.
Below is our average pricing for fabrication based on our process:
Fold & Bind: $10
Dye Application: $5
Finishing: $10
Marketing & Sales: $2
Packaging: $2
Delivery: Cost of Shipping Rate
NOTE: Labor Rates do cost us a pretty penny in California.
DISCLAIMER: The information above is a general way we set prices; our prices may vary based on many factors, including and not limited to material prices which vary based on location of materials, laws and regulations, labor time, the economy, supply chain disruptions, and anything else that is outside the control of Blue Angel Arts. We do our best to maintain consistency in pricing.
